Networking Security is a Major Issue

The Computer Information Science Programming and Networking Team, led by Michael Warner of Coastline College, determined that networking and security were very important in today’s business world. College certificates and mini-certificates were developed that reflect extensive training designed to build the security skills.  Curriculum was created for the first course for networking professionals included: lecture notes, outlines, and quizzes. An online component was developed at Coastline College.

It was discovered that all employees should undergo computer security awareness training in order to prevent security breaches.  Instruction should include the following: (1) development of computer security policies that are put into practice in every organization; (2) discussion of periodic testing of an organization’s email security policy; (3) practical hands-on manipulation of intrusion detection software that has been designed to develop effective security skills in the work environment; and (4) lab classes taught using an instructor and lab assistance to reinforce student learning and facilitate retention.
